Cristy and John Nielsen are PLAYGROUND’s fave husband and wife photography duo. Ok, so they are PLAYGROUND’s only photog couple, but they are still pretty awesome. We are so very impressed that they skillfully manage to balance work, play and homeschooling their two girls (and they still like each other).

Formally known as Cristy Nielsen Photography, The Nielsens Photography was renamed in March 2010 when John left his job in the corporate world to join forces with Cristy in the family biz. Bored with number crunching behind a desk, John traded his suit for a more laid back office in a train car. Yep, a train car. The Nielsen’s ultra hip studio office is in a train car. It’s a killer place for pictures.

Offsetting each other’s personalities Cristy is the laid back, artist-type and John is the organized planner. That might sound like trouble, but it works. John gets the gear ready to go and keeps the books, leaving Cristy free to make the magic happen. But don’t get the wrong idea about John; he’s quick to snap some fab pics too. They both have mad skills.

In between taking pics of other peep’s kids, John and Cristy take turns homeschooling their nine-year-old daughter, Shaylee, and their three-year-old daughter, Camdyn. The Nielsens are also PLAYGROUND’s official event photographers, so be sure to catch them at all of our events.
