Move over Tiger, Orlando is grooming your replacement. Local golf school the Faldo Golf Institute by Marriot, founded by six-time major champion Nick Faldo, is looking to add another mini champion to its credit. Nine-year-old Eric Berggren, a student at FGI since 2009, recently captured the U.S. Kids Golf Qualifier. That means this golfing tike will soon compete in the U.S. Kids Golf Junior World Championship at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. (That’s big time for kiddie golfers.)
Could Orlando’s own golf school produce the next Junior World Champion? We’ll see. But for now, isn’t it cool to know that a local resource for golfing wannabes is perfecting swings that compete in the big leagues? If this 9-year-old golfing lad inspires you to put a club in your kiddo’s hands, check out more local golfing resources in PLAYGROUND’s Golf article in the summer issue. Fore!
