PLAYGROUND Music & Arts Fest

04.18.10 @ Lake Eola, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

What do you get when you mix live music, high-energy dance, never-before-seen interactive art installations, traveling performers and families? A community experience that will impress both kids and parents. Let your family explore through sight, touch, taste and sound the most creative multi-sensory event in Orlando.

PLAYGROUND Music & Arts FestReady to Play?

PLAYGROUND Magazine presents the second annual PLAYGROUND Music & Arts Fest for Central Florida families. Bring the fam out for our gigantic symphony of music and art activities, workshops and shows. The event stretches around Lake Eola. Explore the Arts Summer Camp Fair, the farmer’s market, Orange County’s student art show, interactive booths and, of course, mega fun children’s play zones brought to you by Central Florida’s best family-friendly businesses.

We work hard for this event to be different in that you are not getting bombarded with brochures. Instead, you get to meet the most creative people in your community, who are coming together to allow you to experience the many local arts programs that make Central Florida the leader of community culture in Florida. For instance, you don’t get a pamphlet from Super Awesome Cool Pottery on its schedule and cost; your family gets to physically experience (for free) what makes this pottery class and its teacher unique. A portion of the proceeds from event sponsorships will be benefiting three important local charities: PALS (Providing Autism Links & Supports Inc.), The Fatone Foundation (benefits local charities with an emphasis on children’s organizations) and Page 15 (literacy arts program dedicated to enhancing communication skills and inspiring a passion for the language arts).

Munchkin Mahem
Your kids can experience the event from 30 feet above the ground (on the rock wall), or they can bounce their way around the lake on multiple inflatables. Maybe a balloon animal will pique your interest, or perhaps a meet ‘n’ greet with live animals. Don’t miss the “fire truck” ride. WHAT? … WHAT? … Yeah, we said it. All you have to do is show up.

Arts Summer Camp FairArts Summer Camp Fair
What are you going to do with the kids this summer? Wonder no more; we have your answer. The Arts Summer Camp Fair will showcase more than 50 of Central Florida’s best options for your little artists this summer. Don’t miss testing out the ginormous butterfly wings or learning Brazilian dance techniques.

Live Music
Live MusicIf you have a little Miley Cyrus on your hands, she certainly will enjoy the main stage entertainment, starting at 10 a.m. Your entire family will be entertained by live performances in such genres as pop, hip-hop, electronica, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae and bluegrass.

Special Guests
Several local celebs will be popping by between main stage performances to say “hi” and pose for a quick pic. You never know who could break into song and dance or strike a pose on the runway. Curious? Aren’t you? That’s what we thought.

Photo Op
You can leave your camera at home. There will be tons of photo ops throughout the event, including a flip book take-home souvenir, photo booth stations, and The Nielsens Photography will be out to capture the day’s events and participants. Check out our website to see great pics from last year’s festivities.

Atmosphere
You’ve never seen Lake Eola come alive with so many interactive artistic performances. Absorb organic drum circle sessions, traveling belly dance shows, and puppet shows throughout the area. Get inspired.

Live MusicThat’s What He Said
“The Playground Music & Arts Fest embodies the types of events people are enjoying more and more in downtown Orlando. As our area continues to grow, families are looking for activities to engage their children, while also allowing adults to have a great time as well. This arts education advocacy event engages all ages. I enjoy being a part of it.” ~ Mayor Buddy Dyer

Child Play on the Runway
Fused Fashion presents a musicinspired kids’ fashion show. NYC meets Orlando in a highenergy runway experience for the whole family. Don’t miss the after-show “popup shop” to get your paws on the featured line of clothing for kids.

We Love Art
Express yourself through art. Various exhibitors will be hosting art activities for free. We can’t wait to see what your lil’ artiste will create at the pottery wheel, what she’ll think up for her Mother’s Day and Father’s Day card creations, or how she’ll contribute to the largest “mushroom” planting art installation in the world, just to name a few.

Interactive Workshops
Prepare to be impressed as we bring together Central Florida’s best interactive workshops. You and your crew can learn some new B-boy moves or find your mind’s eye in a children’s yoga class. Also, check out the Hula-hoop twirling, belly dancing and Polynesian dance lessons for the whole family.

Green Street
We ♥ Mother Earth, so we enlisted the Green Parent Association to put together a section of the best green businesses in Central Florida. Get advice on healthy living, pick up some eco-friendly toys, be in the know of the latest sustainable trends and have fun doing it.

Be Pampered
Your family will love our punk rock hairdo salon, a mini mani experience for tiny hands and massage relaxation stations for all.
