Think life with two boys under five is busy? What happens when you throw in the launch of your own business? We don’t know how she has time to keep it all together, but local mom Nicole Williams is a mom with her own mommy business, and she seems to keep life, kids and business all in check. After tracking Nicole down, she was kind enough to share what it is like keeping her family on track and her business booming.
The dropper stopper rocks. It’s one of those products all moms wish they invented. How did you go from a great idea that you discuss with your friends to launching a product and business?
I ran a business prior to having children and always knew one day I would return to the professional world, I just never knew how. After having children, I quickly discovered the need for a quality product that prevented their toys, cups and pacifiers from being launched on the dirty ground. I discussed my idea among other moms with young children, and they agreed. I began testing different samples and conducting local focus groups in order to ensure we developed a top-quality product that truly served a need. For me, transforming a great product into a thriving business required a great partner, so I recruited my sister-in-law, Meredith. Together we dove in head first. Two years of hard work, dedication and a lot of trial and error have finally started to pay off. Although we still have a long way to go, we are well on our way to achieving our goals!
Your list of celebrity clients is impressive. Without giving away your trade secrets, how did you get to meet all of those celebs and introduce them to your product? (See pictures below for a sampling of her fab celebrity clients.)
Having your product in the right place at the right time - sprinkled with a little luck - can make all the difference! A woman with an 18-month-old daughter came across dropper stopperTM and contacted us to participate in the Boom Boom Room (a pre-Golden Globe gifting suite). And as you can see by our pictures … we agreed!
Is there a celebrity you haven’t met yet that you hope to rub elbows with at a Dropper Stopper event?
I would have to say Brooke Burke. She has four children, a mom product, a mom blog and is now the host of Dancing with the Stars. These goals are similar to my own …well maybe not the Dancing with the Stars part. I would love to ask her how she manages it all, and, of course, introduce her to the dropper stopperTM!
You have two kids, how do you achieve the ultimate goal of balance?
I think that the ultimate goal of balance is a work in progress for any mom. I strive to find balance by separating work from family time. I make time every day to play with my children … no cell phones, no computer, just us having fun. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of this without the support of my husband. He is truly an amazing father and partner.
So mom inventor, should we be on the look out for more cool products from you soon?
Our goal has always been to add more products to the Sister Chic line. We will be sure to keep you posted!
