She is a wife, she is a business owner, she is competing for Mrs. Florida America and she is pregnant. Yep, formal wear, a bathing suit and the whole nine yards, Mrs. Central Florida, Melissa Holsapple, will be nearly eight months pregnant when she competes for Mrs. Florida in May 2010. How’s that for a real woman representing the women of Central Florida?
Melissa first competed in the Mrs. Florida America pageant in 2009 when her business partner, Dedra Curtis, got her involved. Although she had never participated in a pageant before she decided to give it a try. After winning an award for Best Sense of Humor and Mrs. Congeniality, Melissa decided to compete again in 2010. But this year will be very different for the 30-year-old, first-time-mother-to-be, “At least I won’t have to work on my abs,” she joked.
One of Melissa’s motivating reasons for competing pregnant in the pageant this year is the ability to use her title of Mrs. Central Florida as a platform to help raise pregnancy awareness and talk to young girls about teen pregnancy. In fact, Melissa plans to co-host the Smart Baby Expo March 14, 2010.
The Mrs. Florida America pageant will be held May 16 at the Westgate Resorts. Follow Melissa’s journey to the pageant, and motherhood, on her Facebook fan page. Good luck Mrs. Central Florida Melissa Holsapple.
